Anomie?

Anomie?

The New Year was basically like an extended work week for me. I carted home tons of papers to grade and slogged through them until my red pen ran out. Am working on some slides right now. Handed in my Ph.D application and proposal. Pretty hectic first few days back at work. It'll be nice when things start slowing down, although it's gonna be hard, because I just got two new classes. But hey, at least I have a job, right? A lot of people want to be working and aren't, so I'm pretty thankful I guess. Did some other stuff, but I wasn't overly impressed by any of it. Ever since I realized that it's only ever going to harder to trust people, I've been...a bit off. I'm not sad or upset. I've just come to realization that for some people, like me, you can only place love and trust in a handful of people. Everyone else will end up disappointing you and you know what? Screw them. I wonder if I'm suffering anomie?

Final thought: Anomie - there's a thought.

Happy New Year!

I think you are smart to make people earn your trust and respect.
All you need is a few people to renew your faith that there are some people out there who will not disappoint you in the end.
Those people are like gold. Don't give up on giving those people a chance and trying to find the gold out there.

They are out there. Just be careful (which you have every right tobe).

Take care.

It seems the older you get, the harder it is to find those people! Or the harder it is to keep looking. sigh. But yes, if they're like gold, they're not just lying around, they need to be found. Thank you and you take care as well. :)

How many classes are you teaching now? I don't trust very many people, and sometimes I feel like I can't trust anyone!

I just Googled "anomie." Crap, it's a term I should have known since it was coined by Emile Durkheim! I majored in sociology!!

I teach 5 classes, and yes again to trusting people. It's so darn hard. Cool, though, you were a sociology major! :) I always thought it was fascinating.
