In Dreams

In Dreams

Do you dream in color? I do. Full color, high quality sound, sometimes, even tactile ability. I'm Thai, so I pay attention to my dreams (you never know when some winning lottery numbers might pop up). I've noticed that my most vivid dreams come to me when I'm feeling stressed and I don't really know it. A few nights ago, I had a horrible dream - a nightmare really, where I was trapped in an elevator that was plummeting out of control. Everyone was screaming and losing control, and in real life, believe me, I would've been yelling right along with them. But this was a dream, and all I did was close my eyes and think, "If this is how it ends, then this is how it ends." I ended up surviving. The elevator jerked to a stop, the doors opened and walked out, no less worse for wear. I'm constantly being told that I take things too seriously (my mother's constant complaint is that I over-react to things); I think my subconscious knows this and is trying to send me the message. My dreams have a way of twisting the concerns of my waking life and writing them into nocturnal dramas rich with inner meaning. The things they tell me aren't always pleasant and they're not always things I want to hear or admit. Perhaps that's why my mind has to construct these elaborate Technicolor dreams - in order for me to confront these fears. Lately I've been having some strange dreams, vivid ones with bright lights and loud sounds and the voices and faces of people I know. I'm not sure yet what they mean, but from the way they turn my stomach, I'm thinking their message is something less than nice. There are truths I'm grappling with in my life, things I would rather avoid, things just below the surface that I'm sure are about to boil over at any moment. My dreams appear to portend this. I don't want to face any of this, but I suppose I will have to, sooner or later. Even though I may not be consciously aware, somewhere inside me, there is awareness.

Final thought: I  don't use drugs; my dreams are frightening enough. M.C. Escher

Every morning, I write down the dream I had the previous night. I do dream in color, and things are extremely tangiable. I had one dream where I was standing in a house completely made of chocolate (yes, sickening), and I could literally smell and taste the chocolate...lol

I've always been able to dream in color, since I was a little girl. I couldn't think of dreaming without the 'high definition' yet there's so many people that can't. Could it be that they just don't remember as well as the rest of us? Or maybe we're more in tune with what's going on? Who knows but I'm glad that we do though..I think of it almost as a blessing of sorts.

Yum chocolate....sorry, got off track. I wish I could keep a dream diary, but I'm always too disoriented in the morning to write anything coherent.

That's an interesting question. And maybe it is a blessing. Never thought of it in those terms, but I think you're onto something.

The same thing happens to me.

The other day I had a dream that owls were walking all over the street. Well I like owls, so I pointed them out to my friend and started following them. One picked up an acorn and threw it at us, and for some reason I thought it turned us into dinosaurs, so we started acting like dinosaurs. Then a couple of my other friends showed up and started laughing at us.

Occasionally I'll have dreams that have the same setting or characters as previous dreams. My favorite is a pirate ship tied to a derigible balloon, with a crew of three people; a small boy, a talking skull, and a hunky young captain-man. :) They show up when I'm really stressed and the skull always gives me wonderful advice and tells me it'll all be alright.

I know, it's really strange, but they're my favorites.

my dreams are usually quite vivid, especially when stressed too.

Do you keep a dream journal? I thought everyone dreamt in colour! I try not to remember my dreams; it's too tiring when I wake up and remember all the details.

You could write an absurdist play based on these. I wish I had a talking skull to give me advice; I have to decipher things myself. Darn. Thanks for sharing.

I find that usually the things I dream about come true. THere was this time where I dreamt that I'd get one of the nicest teachers as my english teacher and when school started I actually did. There was this other time that I dreamt that I did really good on a test (before I even took the test) and I actually did. I've always heard from people that dreams are your inner desire... what you think is true and stuffs... It's good that you're willing to cope with whatever's gonna b thrown at you. WIsh you best of luck in dealing with that. Perhaps, it might not even be all that bad...
